Will it Melt? Learning About the Sun

Last week we learned all about the sun in kindergarten! One of my favorite activities that we did was put some objects in a muffin tin to observe if they changed or melted when put in direct sunlight for half an hour.

First we predicted which items would change and which would not, then we set them in the sun for thirty minutes and checked them again. I was really surprised how much the crayon and candle had melted, but it was a really hot day!  This is a great activity to do when learning about the sun and how it affects the earth. It is simple enough for kindergartners, but even my upper elementary kids were intrigued!

All you need is a muffin tin and some household objects! If you’d like the printable we used for this activity, you can grab it free HERE!
